Code Enforcement Double Standard
March 24th, 2008
Last Monday I was driving down Glen between Sheridan and Knoxville. I noticed a number of house did not have trash cans. They had bags of trash sitting on the curb. Didn’t I just get a blanket warning about this, even though it did not apply to my household?
I guess when you live North of War Memorial you don’t get dogs, cats, raccoon and other critters in your trash. It must be all sunshine and rainbows. I’m sure name brand litter must be far less offensive than litter that comes from Aldi products. It must be delightful to find a Tampax brand tampon applicator fresh from someone’s trash as opposed to a store brand one. Maybe you can make a craft out of it and give it to someone you love.
Here is a dirty little secret the city doesn’t want you to know about: People north of War Memorial do shit and guess what? Occasionally it stinks.

Double standard, big time! And if you go to some areas it becomes quadruple standard!

You know I didn’t get a letter like that. Guess I live too far East. And the garbage cans do sit in the alley all week long, with or without a lid. Looks like your ‘hood has been profiled!

What? Are you some kind of moron? Why, the city can do math. Two standards are clearly more than one, and more is clearly better than less. Take taxes, for instance.

I live south of War Memorial but on the West Bluff. I was shocked to read about the warnings you got. I frequently leave my garbage can out overnight with plastic bags of garbage next to it. And I often forget to pick it up until the morning after the garbage truck comes. Everyone in my neighborhood does. I am sure there is dog poop in my yard that has been there for awhile. I think you are being unfairly targeted.

I live near the Zoo and have not recieved any such warning, either.

It doesn’t apply to the city themselves above War Drive. There was this HUGE weed or mini tree growing out of a street storm drain on Sheridan at the entrance to Evergreen Square last summer. Wanted to take a pic and blog about it, but I’m sure they’d send weekwacko out to my house in retaliation.

Well. We have no such garbage problems in East Peoria. Our curbs and alleys are pristine. No one puts their garbage out early and every can is promptly removed as soon as the garbage man empties it. Our garbage is neat and tidy. Just like our citizens and our varmints. It must be something with THAT side of the river.

In Morton, our shit, in fact, does NOT stink.

No, in Morton it smells like pumpkins and SUVs.

Ran into your neighbor as we were shopping merrily at Sheridan Village. Had a great chat about your hood. She said things were rather quiet. Had to drop off a report to an attorney’s office in your area today. I had to round the block as I wasn’t quite sure where the office was. Saw a group of enterprising youth hang out on the street just east of your house. I parked and watched, got on the cell phone and they scattered. Saw the truck in your drive and thought about giving you a holler to take a gander out your back window. Keep an eye out there. They have been forming in my area too.
Was in EB serenity’s turf the other day. Was on a resident’s porch talking about a number of things. Witnessed a drag race, a couple of drug deals, a number of cars that needed to be removed from the owner’s thumping speakers. Apparantly sidewalks are for decorative purposes only, not to be tread on. Took everything in my being to respect that the person whose porch I was on didn’t feel safe with my bringing the wrath of Khan down on these fools. I ended up returning to my own neck of the woods to the welcome harmony of my own miscreets.

Paul,
More than likely you would have missed Brad. He was out walking around delivering neighborhood association flyers.

Don’t remind me of the pumpkin smell. Right before the Festival, the entire village smells like dog shit for weeks because of the rotten pumpkin carcasses they throw out in that field.
